So I am really in the holiday spirit! After my blog on my
previous Malta holiday, jetting off to Portugal in two days and recently
booking a trip to Belgium for a few weeks’ time, I thought I would do some
further reminiscing.
Last August, I went on a trip to Amsterdam with Jessell and
friends and family in order to celebrate his brother-in-law’s 30th
birthday – and what a way to celebrate! I love city breaks and would definitely
visit Amsterdam again, there is so much to see and do and we definitely did not
have enough time to do everything but it was a fantastic experience!
As you can imagine, Amsterdam is very x-rated so I have
tried to keep it as clean as possible!
DAY ONE
After spending the night at Jessell’s sister and
brother-in-law’s house, we woke up early ready to catch a taxi to the airport
with Jessell’s other sister and friends. Unfortunately I had been very ill
leading up to the weekend and the thought of a flight made my stomach turn –
luckily I was fine (until we arrived at the hotel but it did not stop me having
a fab time)!
The flight was very short and we waited to catch a train as
soon as we had arrived in Amsterdam, eager to find out where we would be
staying!
We stayed at Hotel CC which was only a short walk away from
the station and was in an absolutely fantastic location – it was very central
to everywhere we planned on visiting.
We checked into the hotel and dropped off our luggage before
wandering the interesting streets of Amsterdam – I say interesting because
there were plenty of unusual sights!
We looked around and grabbed a bite to eat before finding a
brilliant seat in a bar overlooking the entire street including the canal and
part of the red light district. We had a few drinks (unfortunately non-alcoholic
for me because of my stomach) before continuing to find some food for dinner.
Admittedly, we really were not very cultural with the food
on our travels and both of our dinners took us to Wok to Walk! It was quick to
prepare and delicious to eat – perfect as we wanted to continue exploring at
the same time.
We were all fairly tired after our journey but our night was
only beginning! After dinner, we brought some tickets to see a sex show at
Moulin Rouge Theatre – definitely an eye opener that’s for sure. I really will
not go into details and will leave it for you to discover yourselves if you
visit! After, we did a circuit around the red light district before sitting
down for some yummy ice cream!
At that point, I think it was fair to call it a night after
a couple more bars!
DAY TWO
After a good night’s sleep, everyone felt refreshed and were
up early ready to start another day!
At first, the girls and boys went their
separate ways to have a bit of retail therapy. We regrouped to devour a
yummy breakfast at a nearby café.
We then decided the plan for the day and chose to take out a
couple of boats along the canals. The walk was a bit of a trek so we had a few
detours on the way, including a playground showing our very childish side!
Even though the walk was fairly long, it was really lovely
as Amsterdam is very picturesque and just a beautiful city!
Once we arrived, we decided to take out a couple of boats
and thought it would be a brilliant idea for the girls to challenge the boys –
as you can imagine this didn’t work and it wasn’t long until the boys had to
intervene to prevent us crashing!
The boat trip was lovely and we were very lucky with the
weather. We thought it would be a good idea to stop off and grab some supplies –
namely junk food!
We made it back in one piece and grabbed a taxi to the AnneFrank Museum to continue the cultural side of our trip and it was very
interesting, definitely a recommendation. There are definitely plenty of spectacular sights!
We ended our day with a bit of bar hopping before turning in
for our final night in Amsterdam!
DAY THREE
We awoke for our final day, sad that it was almost over, but
that didn’t stop us making the most of it and cramming in as much stuff as
possible before we left! We walked around the corner from our hotel to grab
some breakfast ready to set us up for the day.
After, we had some time to wander around the shops and do
some more sightseeing.
This was all before we decided to book tickets to the
Amsterdam Ice Bar as a few of us had never been to one and we had a few drinks
before our showing!
It was definitely a brilliant experience, although drinking
out of ice cups is definitely a lot harder than you would have thought! I think
we definitely rocked the spaceman coats and gloves…
We finished our trip with a huge, delicious meal at the HardRock Café – you definitely cannot beat it!
We returned to our hotel to collect our luggage before
heading to the train station to begin our journey home. However, how could we resist stopping for some yummy waffles on the way? The answer is, we couldn't!
It was a fantastic trip, and we were all hoping another one
was on the horizon soon – fingers crossed!
Love Always
xx
