RSPCA SHOUT OUT!

Image taken from RSPCA website

This post is a little different from the others and is definitely a lot more important. I want to raise awareness for animal cruelty and in particular, the major hard work of the RSPCA charity. If you could share this, copy and paste it, anything, then please do and get involved – awareness is essential! The RSPCA website has been linked below several images so have a look and see how great the cause is.

Jessell and I visited the RSPCA in Leicester a couple of days ago and it really was such an eye opener. Particularly for us, we are huge dog lovers and I honestly cannot wait to have my own place and provide a home to at least one of the lovely dogs. In the meantime, however, I will stick to donations! When we visited, we purchased a bag of dog treats and made our way around the kennel blocks. We were pleased to see that there weren’t many dogs in, but the ones we saw were amazing. For animals that had suffered hardship, they were the most intelligent, spirited and gentle dogs you could imagine. We both felt so attached to every single animal just from walking around a few times and they all struck a chord. We wanted to take them all home, but unfortunately for us, we will have to wait a few years to purchase our first pooch – there is still plenty for us to do for the RSPCA in the meantime!

The RSPCA workers and volunteers deserve more recognition for what they do then they actually receive. They work so hard to care for these wonderful animals and much more. They are an amazing charity and aim to improve the welfare of any animal in any way possible. They have even achieved great lengths to protect animals by changing laws as well as working internationally. The list is endless for what they aim to succeed in and achieve in the future.

Animals cannot speak for themselves; it is up to responsible people to speak on their behalf!

ROCKY’S STORY
My entire family love animals and we visit the RSPCA a few times a year to make a donation and feed all the amazing dogs to try and make their day. The charity is particularly close to our hearts because many years ago, my dad treated my mum to the most gorgeous puppy from the RSPCA and called him ‘Rocky’. I had the pleasure of living out the first eleven years of my life with Rocky and we really could not have asked for a better dog. Rocky was dumped and abandoned on the street when he was just a few weeks old – he was obviously very afraid, cold, and hungry and didn’t know what he had done wrong to deserve such cruelty. He was too young to fend for himself but luckily he was found and rescued by the RSPCA and nursed back to health. My dad just could not resist – I don’t think anyone could! The funny thing was, my parents were worried how he would take to me as a new-born baby, but he was a natural. He was more than a pet, he was family. He was a lovely crossbreed and we still don’t know exactly what he was now, but we didn’t care! He lived a very long and carefree life and I feel proud to be a part of that.

Please, there is so much you could do to help many suffering animals and give them a chance of a real life:

  1. Raise awareness – speak to people, post on Facebook, Twitter and any other social networking site. If you know anyone looking to adopt an animal, please tell them to visit their local RSPCA.
  2. Donate – any donation will go a long way and to think your money has contributed to saving the life of an innocent animal is extremely rewarding.
  3. Adopt an animal – if you are planning on adopting, as long as you are sure that you can definitely commit, the first place you think of should be the RSPCA. Unfortunately, many puppies are abandoned and they all need homes to go to. Rehoming older dogs is also a huge problem, so if you would like the sweetest companion, then why not adopt an older dog? Let a dog see out its last few years where he/she deserves – in a comfortable home, getting spoilt rotten with a loving family.
  4. Volunteer – if you live local to an RSPCA, there is no excuse. If you have free time, whether it is a few hours or a few days a week, please spend it wisely and dedicate some time to helping those animals which make our lives so special.

There is plenty more to do including getting involved in campaigns, events and fundraisers or even hold your own! For my 15th birthday, my parents organised a party for which I asked to charge £5 per person and managed to raise hundreds of pounds for the RSPCA. If you plan on hosting an event anyway, why not make it for a cause? It really is so easy to do! Every single person can do at least one of these options listed, so please don’t sit back and act now!

Love Always
xx
